A yoga retreat in Puglia: why not?

Here At the Aia, we love yoga, so much so that we regularly host yoga retreats. And while we also love Puglia, the Italian region where we’re based, we know it doesn’t have the same klout other destinations have when it comes to yoga retreats.

We all have that colleague who went to Bali and can’t stop talking about her “Eat Pray Love” experience or a friend who went to a remote ashram in India, but Puglia? It’s a little bit harder to find someone who has been on a yoga retreat here, isn’t it? Well, it’s our intention to change this!

We think Puglia is a fantastic yoga destination but we understand that you might feel a little worried coming here for a retreat instead of a tried-and-tested destination like Bali. That’s why in today's post we want to talk about some common misconceptions you might have about Puglia yoga retreats.

Here are 4 things we guarantee that you won’t find yourself saying afterward.

“Ugh, the weather was horrible!”

The Mediterranean enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days each year. During the warmer months - April to October - the skies are blue and the weather warm. Midsummer offers long evenings, glorious sunsets, and calm seas. It’s unlikely that in Summer you’ll find yourself trapped indoors because of a monsoon or a tropical storm.

“It was too difficult for me”

If you love the practice but you're by no means a devoted yogi, you can still find the right retreat for you and enjoy it. Here At the Aia, for example, we have retreats for all levels, beginners included. And unlike other remote locations, yoga retreats in Puglia are never too far away from nightlife, sightseeing opportunities and other off-the-mat activities, in fact, these are all an integral part of a retreat’s schedule.

“The accommodation was simply terrible”

Forget dorms, huts, and sheds: here in Puglia, you’ll find only top-notch accommodations that are comfortable and high-quality. Those staying At the Aia have their own bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and find here an outdoor pool, a large garden and a patio they can enjoy.

“Food was boring and bland”

Puglia food is anything but, we’re in Italy after all! Some people are worried that a retreat may be too regimented and they’ll be served with hospital food, but this is not the case here in Puglia. You’ll find that food here is varied and flavorful and even dietary restrictions can be accommodated (vegan requirements included).

Sounds good? Then we hope to see you soon at a yoga retreat this year!
