The best brunch in Italy (how I turned an American tradition into an instant Italian classic)

This is not a "we" post, this is an "I" post. It's about how I am starting a new tradition because traditions do have to start somewhere, don't they? Although it would be more appropriate to say that I'm taking a tradition I've known for most of my life and adapting it to my new circumstances. Is it crazy to move to Italy from New York and miss the food? Maybe a bit, but it's not crazy to miss brunch. And that's what led me to try a new event that I'll hope more and more of you will join: American-style Sunday brunches in a beautiful garden in Lecce!


Mixing and matching: American traditions meet Italian food

I am Italian. Born and raised in New York City, I spent most of my life going back and forth between NYC and Santa Caterina. Then I moved to Lecce, a town in Southern Italy where my family has roots. The town is beautiful and, while I spend most of my time at The Aia, in Nardò, I still find the time to appreciate the beauty of this city in autumn and winter. And yes, the food is amazing, but brunch is not really a thing here - at least not remotely as popular as it is in the States.

To some, brunch is the most important meal of the week. It's where family and friends come together for a great meal, drinks, and lively conversation. The atmosphere should be relaxed and welcoming so that everyone can enjoy themselves without feeling rushed or pressured to move on to the next thing on their calendar.

That's where I come in!

I will be organizing American Style Sunday Brunches using 100% Italian, locally sourced ingredients: this is how you get the best of both worlds!

Italian cuisine is all about quality, simple ingredients that you can trace back to their origin and taking your time to make things. Cooking is a love language. No rushing, no judging, no stress. Is it me or does that sound like the perfect brunch?

The brunch menu will include pancakes with seasonal fruit, French toast made with Italian bread, seasonal vegetable omelettes, homemade crostata, the characteristic Leccese Pasticciotti, eggs Benedict, and more. And since no brunch (and no proper Italian meal) is complete without wine, each event will feature wine tastings, with a prestigious selection of Apulian reds, whites, and roses.
